About the Radiation Courses in English
If you plan to start working with radiation and/or radioisotopes (RIs), you need to be registered and authorized as a qualified Radiation Worker in accordance with legal requirements. Those who belong to the School of Science, The University of Tokyo (SoS, UTokyo) are requested to be registered and authorized at SoS, UTokyo, even if they are to be engaged in experiments at accelerator or synchrotron radiation facilities outside of UTokyo. You need to attend the “SoS Radiation Course” (90-min Zoom session), in addition to the “UTokyo Radiation Course” (6-hour e-Learning course).
If you are already a Radiation Worker (a Continuing user) at SoS, UTokyo, you are requested to attend the “SoS Radiation Course” once every school year (April–March) for renewal or your qualification. If you fail to do so, your qualification as a Radiation Worker will be terminated.
N.B. If your registration category is “X-AB” meaning you are a user of only X-ray devices of category A or B, you only need to attend the “SoS Radiation Course” once in the first year and not any longer in the following years.
Course Language
English sessions are held twice a year: once in spring and once in autumn.
All foreigners including New registrants, Re-registrants, Continuing users (except in category “X-AB”) are requested to attend an English session of the “SoS Radiation Course” on Zoom, unless they are fluent in Japanese. Japanese sessions are limited to those people who fully understand the Japanese language. If your schedules do not match either of the two English sessions, please ask the Laboratory Radiation Manager (the staff member in charge of radiation management in your lab) to contact the Radiation Management Office for a request of possible on-demand education as an alternative.
